Naruemon is working on
the structure and
properties of boron coatings on
ferrous materials.

Fig. (a) shows a
cross-section of the resultant structure formed after the
process of boronization. Boron
atoms diffuse into the metal substrate
resulting in the saw tooth structure.
Phase analysis indicated the presence
of iron boride (FeB,Fe2
B ).

Fig. (b) shows the micro-hardness technique.
The small and large
indentations indicate regions of high (boronized steel) and
low hardness,
respectively.

When tests are done at 600 C
for the untreated steel we can see cracks on
the surface of the material.

When Oxidation is
done at 600 C for the the boron coated steel the
resultant structure is
resistant to cracking.
