Research

Our graduate and undergraduate students,  together with outstanding faculty and technical staff, conduct research in a variety of areas. Many of the research topics are interdisciplinary, with participation from other engineering, basic science, and medical disciplines.

Areas of current research strength include

 biomaterials, nano-materials, ceramics,

 composites, durability, electronic and

 optical  materials, materials characterization,

magnetic materials, metals and alloys, polymers

 and  semiconductors.

In addition to state funding, we had grants,

contract, and other research funding exceeding

$1.1 million during the last academic year.

An incomplete list of funding sources includes:
  • Department of Energy
  • National Science Foundation
  • U.S. Army
  • U.S. Navy
  • U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
