    About Us

The mission of the NJIT Materials Science and Engineering program is to provide graduate education and research opportunities for students  and professionals in the theoretical, experimental, and analytical foundations of materials science and in the engineering use,  modification, and application to the structures and products of the  technological age.  Graduates will be prepared for new or enhanced positions in industry, government, and the academy.

Materials science and engineering is an interdisciplinary activity that applies the principles of basic sciences and engineering to understanding the behavior of materials, as well as development and applications. Students are exposed to an interdisciplinary approach to research and education.
